Amazon Honor System Click Here to Pay Learn More

A note on the Amazon ads: I've chosen to display current events titles in the Amazon box. Unfortunately, Amazon appears to promote a disproportionate number of angry-left books. I have no power over it at this time. Rest assured, I'm still a conservative.

Log-speck-eye: John Kerry did something stupid last week. He took an tip from Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and attacked President Bush for sitting and reading a book, calmly, with schoolkids for 7 minutes after being told that America was under attack.

Unfortunately, Kerry apparently forgot that he'd already gone on the record with Larry King on his reaction to the attacks the morning of 9/11.

I was in the Capitol. We’d just had a meeting—we’d just come into a leadership meeting in Tom Daschle’s office, looking out at the Capitol. And as I came in, Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid were standing there, and we watched the second plane come in to the building. And we shortly thereafter sat down at the table and then we just realized nobody could think, and then boom, right behind us, we saw the cloud of explosion at the Pentagon. And then word came from the White House, they were evacuating, and we were to evacuate, and so we immediately began the evacuation.

The second plane flew into the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m. The plane hit the Pentagon at 9:43 a.m.

That's 40 minutes.

Versus Bush's 7 minutes.

This is not a winner for Kerry.

Comments:
Not sure you can compare the reaction of a Senator or any legislator with that of the President. Their roles are different.

When a Senator brings it into play, well, we then have a right to play, don't we?

The key for me is its almost 3 years later and Kerry still hasn't figured out that the US is at war. GWB figured it out withing minutes.

GWB figured it out withing minutesUnfortunately, Bush has yet to figure out exactly who we are at war with.

This comparison is utterly silly. Kerry's remarks were in response to a question, not part of a speech. They asked what he would have done were he president and it's a perfectly legitimate answer. It doesn't matter how long he sat in Daschle's office, since there wasn't anything he could do as a US senator.

Re: "It doesn't matter how long he sat in Daschle's office, since there wasn't anything he could do as a US senator."

How about: Leave?

A "what if?" to think about: If the Pentagon airplane had been targeted on the Capitol instead, or if Flight 93's hijackers had been a bit less inept or the passengers a bit slower on the uptake, how many sitting Congressmen and Senators would still be alive today?

If a sense of self-preservation can't get a man's brain off top dead center, what will?
