Prime solution: I just thought I'd point out this article in The New York Times. I've always liked math, well maybe that's not quite true. I liked math up to the point that I took multivariable calculus. I think it's pretty safe to say that I'm one of the few journalists to have successfully completed 4 quarters of college calculus.
Anyway. Prime numbers. Cryptography. Cool stuff.
