Amazon Honor System Click Here to Pay Learn More

A note on the Amazon ads: I've chosen to display current events titles in the Amazon box. Unfortunately, Amazon appears to promote a disproportionate number of angry-left books. I have no power over it at this time. Rest assured, I'm still a conservative.

Another future Lompoc resident: Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty Tuesday to three felony counts of fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion. He could be sentenced for up to 11 years in federal prison.

I hope that the public officials that participated in his schemes -- both Republican and Democrat -- end up spending quality time with him in the slammer.

If all you read are today's stories, however, you may only get half the picture. The Washington Post, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times never mention Abramoff directing money to Democrats. Do a word search through each of their articles.

Abramoff was an equal opportunity lobbyist. Like many interested businesses and wealthy individuals, Abramoff spread money around. You get a hint of that if you click on this New York Times graphic. But you don't get the full impact of Abramoff's dealings until you check out this comprehensive list at OpenSecrets.org. There are certainly more GOP contributions than Democrat contributions, but much of that is due to the fact that the Republicans are in control of Congress.

I have a feeling that when all is said and done that members of both parties may find themselves in trouble.

This also doesn't bode well for Rep. Tom DeLay. County prosecutor Ronnie Earle's indictment of DeLay in Austin is a joke, but this Abramoff scandal has legs.

Comments:
Prediction--Delay will protest innocence, claim to fully cooperate, attack those who attack him, and ultimately cop a plea. Duke Cunningham has shown him the way.

Okay, here's another prediction: Six months from now, 60 percent of Americans will believe that Abramoff only gave money to Republicans--facts notwithstanding.

Gee, wonder where they'd get *that* idea?

Matt's idea of doing a word-search for "Democrat" in the NYT/LAT stories on Abramoff was brilliant. Folks who believe there's no left/Dem media bias should consider this excellent experiment.
