Amazon Honor System Click Here to Pay Learn More

A note on the Amazon ads: I've chosen to display current events titles in the Amazon box. Unfortunately, Amazon appears to promote a disproportionate number of angry-left books. I have no power over it at this time. Rest assured, I'm still a conservative.

Setting the bar low: CNet's News.com site often does a pretty good job of tech reporting -- explaining sometimes complex issues in terms most computer users can understand.

However, this statement in a Q&A with State Sen. Deborah Bowen had me chuckling:

The head of a Senate subcommittee on new technologies, Bowen is no technophobe. She's among the many pet owners that have had their cats and dogs implanted with RFID (radio frequency identification) chips in order to find them if they're picked up by the pound. She's also a fan of science fiction writers William Gibson and Neal Stephenson, whose books have won popularity among the geek-chic crowd and have inspired some of Bowen's policy stances. [emphasis added]

So, you put a chip in your pet (which is required for every dog adopted from the local humane society) and read a couple of sci-fi books and you're officially tech savvy. Makes one wonder if she's got one of those beige boxes in her office. You know, the ones with that sticker that says "Intel Inside."
